The construction of a new in-town elementary school is BIG news for our community. What better way to celebrate the historic proportions of this great initiative than with Mass, outdoors, and on the site of the new school building?
That’s right! The September 9, 2016 All School Mass will be held outdoors, beginning at 8:30 am, in the parking lot of Immaculate Conception Elementary School.
Bishop Steven J. Raica will preside over the Mass, with other priests as concelebrants. More than 1,500 faithful are expected to be in attendance, including the more than 1,000 students and staff who comprise the GTACS school system.
Campaign co-chair Pat Heintz could not be more excited. “With this Mass,” he says, “We are going to let the world know what’s happening at our school system, and how proud we are of our Catholic faith.”
On July 20, 2016, the GTACS Capital Campaign celebrated achieving $7.65 million in pledges with a Champagne and S’mores reception at Immaculate Conception Elementary School. More than 50 campaign supporters were on-hand for the event, which was held on the parking lot overlooking the future construction site.
“We are thrilled with the success of the campaign thus far,” says campaign co-chair Connie Deneweth, “but we know that there is ‘s’more’ work to be done.” Prospective donors may contact Wayne Mueller to obtain a pledge packet.
As we learned when St. Clare Chapel was built inside St. Francis High School, there is immeasurable value in having sacred space within our schools. It gives students and staff a quiet place for prayer. It can be used for small group services, or for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Most importantly, it reminds us all our eternal destiny and our mission to form hearts and minds.
